East is East

Context of the film:
The film is set in a British household of mixed-ethnicity, with a British Pakistani father and an English mother in Salford, Lancashire, in 1971.During this period John Enoch Powell was a British politician ( a conservative party MP) who famously made the 'rivers of blood' speech in 1968- this was a speech criticizing Commonwealth immigration and the proposition of a new anti discriminatory law (a law on people’s rights to be treated equally). According to most accounts, the popularity of Powell's perspective on race may have played a decisive contributory factor in the Conservatives' surprise victory in the 1970 general election. Powell’s views on racial minorities are echoed throughout the film where a lot of campaign posters feature in it.
